Software and hardware with closed licenses/patents
make you, the user, a product, and make the proprietor
of that product the consumer. By closing their designs they
prevent their competitors from being legally allowed to make
a viable competing product. This gives the proprietor a
monopoly on your consumership. An example of this is that the x86
and arm architectures are closed, meaning no one is allowed to edit
the design of the processors that go into your computer. This is what
allows evil organizations to spy on and control your computer at any time.
Consider supprting open designed products like riscv and GNU Linux. These
respect your freedom of choice as a consumer that allow markets to behave
competitively.
